The Senior Management Team at The Møller Centre are aiming to raise £3000 for Alzheimer’s Society by completing a unique endurance event – a 50km walk – along the historic Grand Union Canal towpath – a hidden green corridor that winds its way from the heart of London out towards the Chilterns.

Stuart Websdale, General Manager of The Møller Centre explained, “Alzheimer’s Society, is the leading UK care and research charity for people with Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias, their families and carers. We chose Alzheimer’s Society as our charity of the year because sadly, many of us have experienced the effects that dementia has had on friends and relatives and we wanted to raise funds to support the charity and do something positive to help. Over the course of the year more than half of my colleagues have attended practical information sessions to become ‘Dementia Friends’ and learned about what it is like to live with dementia. This has given us an understanding of the disease and helped us turn that understanding into action.”

Dementia describes different brain disorders that trigger a loss of brain function. These conditions are all usually progressive and eventually severe.

Alzheimer’s disease is the most common type of dementia, affecting 62 per cent of those diagnosed. Dementia is one of the main causes of disability later in life, ahead of cancer, cardiovascular disease and stroke. As a country we spend much less on dementia than on these other conditions.
