As part of the international Churchill 2015 – 21st Century Statesmanship Global Leaders Programme, The Møller Centre is convening an esteemed international group of 30 eminent senior leaders, including Ms. Ane Mærsk Mc-Kinney Uggla, chairman of the Board the A.P. Møller Foundation and vice-chairman of global conglomerate Maersk Group’s board of directors, to explore what is required of leadership to adapt organisations, including their culture and teams, to thrive in today’s world and the uncertainty of the future. Ms Ane Uggla will deliver a key note speech to set the context entitled, “How do core values support the leadership of a global organisation such as Maersk to adapt and thrive both today and tomorrow”.
The Møller Centre’s practical leadership symposium, on Friday 12 June 2015, will form part of a unique international celebration of the life and legacy of Sir Winston Churchill, fifty years after his death, sixty years after his final resignation as prime minister, and seventy five years after his ‘finest hour’ leading the fight against fascism in 1940. The Churchill 2015: 21st Century Statesmanship Programme, (press release here), under the patronage of former UK Prime Minister Sir John Major is bringing together panels of business leaders, academics and policy makers from around the world to discuss the key strategic issues facing leaders in order to identify the skill sets required and redefine leadership in the modern society. Each group’s recommendations will be published collectively along with a strategic overview in a digital book that will form a ‘leadership blue print’ for the 21st century. The next steps and action agenda will then be agreed at a high-level summit of leaders chaired by Lord George Robertson, former NATO Secretary General at The Guildhall, London on 23rd October.
Gillian Secrett, CEO of the Moller Centre and Fellow of Churchill College explained: “At the Practical Leadership symposium, our leadership development experts will facilitate the group of senior leaders to explore the key strategic issues they face in the context of todays world, the impact of individual leadership approaches and behaviours in tackling these issues and the significance of the engagement with teams to deliver successful outcomes. The process is designed to be a virtuous circle. As well as the output informing the Churchill 2015 leadership report, we will take inspiration from the leaders present to inform and further develop the Møller leadership approach as part of the core content of a ‘Churchill Leadership Programme’ to be delivered to senior and aspiring leaders through The Møller Centre.

Maersk Mc-Kinney Møller was one of the most respected industrialist leaders in Denmark and his vision and benefaction created The Møller Centre for Continuing Education, to bring the worlds of academia and industry together for Executive and Professional education and development. He believed that Denmark’s safety during the Second World War and freedom and prosperity afterwards, had depended on Churchill’s leadership and wanted to create a living legacy in his honour at Churchill College.
